With all the talk in the press of a looming retirement crisis, the headline of today’s story in Market Watch is a welcomed relief. In a nutshell: Your retirement is going to be great!
The article, citing a significant new study (based on a survey of 12,000 pre-retirees and retirees), contains several golden nuggets of optimism:
- An overwhelming majority of retirees said retirement has been the most rewarding time of their lives.
- Most retirees (in all asset categories) said it was easier than expected to manage financially.
- A high percentage of pre-retirees decide to retire based on a date rather than a specified amount of savings.
- A vast majority of respondents said their main reason to retire was to have more time to do whatever they wanted — including simply relaxing.
- And, while it’s a bit of a mixed bag, here’s our favorite: “…60% of men said they looked forward to spending more time with their wives in retirement, just 43% of women said that about their spouses. Almost 70% of women said spending time with their grandchildren was a top retirement goal.”
So, there you have it, friends. Retirement can be as rewarding, manageable and relaxing as you make it. Start planning yours today. Take the Fit-To-Retire readiness assessment here.
