It may sound too simple, maybe too ‘new age-y’ to be taken seriously. But, the first step in retirement planning is imagining or “seeing yourself” in this new phase of life. Are you ready? Then, find a comfortable place to relax, close your eyes and visualize your retirement. What does it look like? (Serene and peaceful? Or, active and exhilarating?) Where are you? (At home in the garden? On the North rim of the Grand Canyon? In a Head Start classroom?) Who are you with? (Your spouse? Your grandchildren? Dozens of hungry 3-year-olds?) When you start picturing yourself in satisfying real-life scenarios, retirement seems less of an abstract concept and more of a desired reality.
In honor of National Retirement Planning Week, we humbly suggest you take the financial piece out of the picture, just for one day. Instead, concentrate on what you want to do in your retirement. See yourself doing it in your mind. Entertain any and all ideas, no matter how unrealistic they may seem to you now. Don’t worry about the money. There is plenty of time for that.
The goal of the Fit-To-Retire program is to help you become more prepared AND enthusiastic about the retirement you have earned. It’s not a one-size-fits-all proposition. There are no one-size-fits-all solutions. And, it starts with a dream. YOUR dream.
